Alicante is the perfect city for a yoga holiday. All styles can be found, in English or Spanish. Sometimes even Dutch!
After years of practicing martial arts and athletics I noticed I had drifted quite far from my feelings. I was literally able to switch off pain. That sounds wonderful, of course; but meanwhile I was developing all kinds of physical complaints that I totally ignored. From twinges in knee and back to severe migraine. Yoga helps me to take stock again and put the busy thoughts in my head on pause. To hit the pause button and take a moment for myself. In Alicante there are opportunities for this everywhere! Yoga classes on the beach
Alicante’s beautiful beaches form an idyllic backdrop for outdoor yoga classes. Many instructors organize sessions at sunrise or sunset, creating a serene and invigorating experience. Popular beaches for beach yoga are:

Which kinds of yoga can be found in Alicante?
1. Hatha Yoga
Focus: Physical postures and breathing techniques. Characteristics: A calm and traditional form of yoga that helps improve flexibility, strength and balance. Suitable for beginners.
2. Vinyasa Yoga
Focus: Flowing movements and breathing. Characteristics: A dynamic and often fast style in which poses transition smoothly. Also known as “flow yoga”.
3. Ashtanga Yoga
Focus: Strength and flexibility. Characteristics: An intensive and structured form with a fixed series of poses. It’s physically demanding and often practiced at the same pace.
4. Iyengar Yoga
Focus: Precision and alignment. Characteristics: Uses props such as blocks and straps to perform poses accurately. Suitable for people with injuries or limitations.
5. Bikram Yoga
Focus: Detoxification and endurance. Characteristics: Also known as “hot yoga”, practiced in a heated room of about 40°C. Consists of a fixed series of 26 poses.
6. Kundalini Yoga
Focus: Spiritual awakening. Characteristics: Combines breathing, movement and meditation to activate life energy (kundalini). Often includes chanting and mantra repetition.
7. Yin Yoga
Focus: Deep stretch and relaxation. Characteristics: Poses are held for longer (3–5 minutes). Targets deeper connective tissue and joints.
8. Restorative Yoga
Focus: Recovery and relaxation. Characteristics: Uses props to support the body in relaxing poses. Aimed at promoting deep relaxation and recovery.
9. Power Yoga
Focus: Strength and cardiovascular health. Characteristics: An energetic, intensive form inspired by Ashtanga. Aims to improve strength and endurance.
10. Sivananda Yoga
Focus: Holistic health. Characteristics: A traditional style based on five principles: proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper nutrition and positive thinking (meditation).
11. Anusara Yoga
Focus: Alignment and heart‑centered practice. Characteristics: Combines poses with a spiritual philosophy and emphasis on alignment. Focuses on opening the heart.
12. Jivamukti Yoga
Focus: Spiritual growth and physical fitness. Characteristics: Integrates physical postures, meditation, chanting and philosophy. Focused on compassion and awareness.
