The Best Javea Tips

The best tips in Javea
Javea, also called Xàbia in Valencian, is one of the most popular places on the Costa Blanca. The reason is that this is a gorgeous part of Spain: a beach with clear blue water, cozy terraces, lots of greenery and many Dutch tourists. For me it’s a bit the Ibiza of the Costa Blanca — and certainly worth a visit or a holiday! There’s a pleasant old town, nice shops and the climate is delightful year‑round! What you should see and do here and the best accommodations — check this blog with the best Javea tips.
These are the 3 finest hotels in Alicante:
→ ☆☆☆☆ Nomad Hotel (boho, sand tones, by the sea, luxe)
→ ☆☆☆☆ Mi Almazara (Inland, peace, nature, beautiful pool with a view)
→ ☆☆☆☆ Parador de Jávea (By the sea, beautiful pool — a Parador is truly a phenomenon in Spain!)

Visit the market
You really shouldn’t skip the market in Javea . In the covered market hall you’ll find tasty tapas, fresh fish and fruit and veg you won’t see in Dutch supermarkets! I was there around lunchtime — the perfect time to sample local dishes. I did so at “Ca Mariola,” especially because it said Tortillería above the stall. That means you’re in the right place if you love tortillas! And it was definitely recommended. The atmosphere was cozy in the market hall, as many locals came to eat a tapa with a cold drink.
The market is open from 8:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00.

Kayak and snorkel with Hendrik in the caves
Last year I met Hendrik, who for years has organized the best kayak and snorkel tours in Javea with his family. This is an activity you shouldn’t skip when you’re in Javea! Also great with children. You go to one of the sea caves and there you can snorkel or bob on your kayak or paddle surf board. Below you can book directly with Siesta Advisor .

Shopping in Javea
Javea is super fun for shopping. In the old town you’ll find, for example, Hínedito — with beautiful homeware, bags and jewellery. Many lovely items sadly don’t fit in your suitcase: bowls, vases, rugs. A golden tip if you live in Spain, of course!
♥ Looking for beautiful rattan lamps for your home, stylish Mediterranean homeware? Then step inside FJ Styling.
♥ You’ll also find a concept store at the Nomad Hotel, with lovely kaftans, scented candles and books. Score a fine souvenir here so you can keep thinking back to your great Javea holiday in the Netherlands!
♥ Do you want to score the sturdy canvas bag below from the brand Wijck? I sell this exclusively! Send me a message and it’ll come your way! Note: shipping or pick‑up in Spain!

Coffee & Cocktails
Got a minute? Because Javea has loads of fun, hip terraces where you can order the tastiest café con leche and cocktails. And because Javea is quite a hip city, you’ll also find more coffee bars with specialty coffee here. In Alicante you’ll still find typical Spanish coffees in a regular bar; but in Javea you’ll find all the oat lattes, etc. Super hip and tasty!
I tried Kefi Cafe for a tasty breakfast. But these places are also among the top spots in Javea:
* The Beach House Roof Terrace
* Cocktail Bar “La Esquina”
* La Siesta: There are regular DJ performances here too — even Dutch ones, like Dennis van der Geest!

The nicest restaurants in Javea
Lingering for hours at the table with the sun on the terrace. A nice drink, Spanish music and friendly people. That’s a true holiday in Javea!
Fancy tapas? Then go to the market hall in the center. There you’ll order the tastiest and most affordable tortilla, boquerones en vinagre and albóndigas.
For a slightly more culinary vibe you shouldn’t miss these restaurants:
* Sileno Gastrobar
* Grand Café Flo
* Restaurant El Campo
We tried El Campo and took the photos below.

Sleeping at the nicest accommodations
On the boulevard I found the Nomad Hote l — a hotel that caught my eye from afar. Pleasant earth tones, stylish decor and very friendly staff. And the location is fantastic — about 5 meters’ walk to the beach. This hotel is on a pebble beach, though, so a beach chair or water shoes are handy. But the view is truly beautiful. Breakfast was being served in the restaurant at the time — and it looked very good!
On friends’ and family recommendations I can also recommend these hotels:
* Hotel Boutique Mi Almazara
Pool, boho style, restaurant, 4 stars, relaxation, amazing view.
* The Beach House Studios
The name says it all — that must be good! 30 meters from La Grava beach. Air‑con, central location, 15 minutes from sandy beach.

The beaches and nature in Javea
Start your day at Playa del Arenal , Jávea’s most popular beach. Here you’ll find a wide, golden sandy beach with calm, shallow water — ideal for families. Along the promenade there are plenty of chiringuitos (those beach bars where you drink an ice‑cold drink with your feet in the sand), restaurants and bars where you can enjoy local tapas and great Spanish set menus.
When you search for the beaches of Javea you’ll quickly find the following “calas” — small, beautiful beaches nestled between rocks. There’s a pebble beach where you feel like you’re on a deserted island. Except… These days more people know how to find it! Especially with social media, you’re almost never alone anymore. Want to visit these beaches? Then go in the shoulder seasons. And be early. Below you’ll read which two Instagrammable beaches these are:
Cala Granadella This picturesque bay with a pebble beach and crystal‑clear water is surrounded by lush green hills. It’s the place to snorkel or kayak and explore the underwater world. If you love adventure, a hike through the surrounding nature is also a must.

Cala Portitxol This is an idyllic bay with turquoise water and charming white fishermen’s cottages. Don’t forget your snorkel, because under the surface you’ll find beautiful rock formations and colourful fish. A pair of water shoes and a beach chair are also essential. Walking on the pebbles is great for your circulation, but not exactly easy — especially for kids.
There are now two restaurants on this beach. Cala Clemence is the best known. Besides tasty burgers and salads they often have music on weekends — everyone gets dancing! You can even celebrate your wedding or another party there.
Tip : Keep in mind that you have to walk down a slope to get here — especially in high season.
