Specialty coffee in Alicante — my favorites

Image

Have you ever really thought about where your coffee comes from? Who picked it, how it was roasted, and why some cups taste like red fruit while others taste like dark chocolate? In Alicante you’ll find more and more hip coffee bars that care about exactly that. They don’t just pour a random black brew — they serve coffee with a story. And you’ll want to taste it.

My favorite specialty coffee bars

Welcome to the world of **specialty coffee** — better taste, more sustainable, and made with more love than you might think. In this blog I’m sharing my favorite spots in Alicante for **really good coffee**.

Beans with character, baristas with passion, and coffee moments that make you smile.

🌟 What is specialty coffee?

Specialty coffee scores **80+ points** on a 100-point scale (Specialty Coffee Association). But beyond the numbers: it means every step from bean to cup is handled with care. Beans are hand-harvested, carefully processed, **lightly roasted** (so you really taste the origin) and brewed in many ways from espresso to filter. In the photo below you see **el techo verde** — the “house with the green roof” in Peru, one of the coffee projects supported from Europe.

Why think about specialty coffee?

  • It truly tastes better (think natural notes of berries, nuts, citrus…).
  • More sustainable and fair — you support small farmers and roasters.
  • You learn to drink coffee **mindfully** again.
  • And let’s be honest: discovering new spots is fun.

Here are my 5 favorite specialty coffee bars in Alicante :

  • Kohana.Alicante One of the newest gems in town. Kohana combines Japanese aesthetics with a passion for good coffee. Minimalist interior, peaceful atmosphere, and top-quality filter coffee. Also nice: their matcha and hojicha for those who want something different.📍Calle San Francisco, 58
  • Charo This new coffee bar is located in Alfonso Sabio, close to the market. It's a wonderful place to start your day with homemade breakfasts and coffee that will make everyone happy.
  • Swallow Coffee Roasters Swallow roasts its own beans and experiments extensively with fermentation processes and new techniques. The interior is clean, the service is top-notch, and the coffee? Simply excellent.📍Calle Alemania, 26
  • Sip and Wonder Coffee House The place where digital nomads gather—not only because of the fast Wi-Fi, but mainly because of the fantastic coffee and delicious tostadas. They work with various micro-roasters and the beans change regularly, so you get to taste something new every time.📍Calle Poeta Campos Vasallo, 8
  • Madness Specialty Coffee They roast their own beans here, and you can taste it. Madness has an industrial look and a small outdoor terrace. The baristas are happy to share their knowledge and will gladly prepare a café con leche for you. 📍Calle San Nicolás, 4
