Are you coming to Alicante this spring or summer? Then discover the best tips below for the whole family. Will you choose a Spanish zoo or a typically Spanish experience in a paella restaurant with a playground by the sea? With these Spanish summer family outings in Alicante and the surrounding area, you won’t be bored for a single day.

The tips below are all available during the May holidays. Are you looking for current news, events, festivals or concerts? Then check our Alicante Like a Local Calendar with up‑to‑date information!

Tip 1: Secret City Trails game on your phone

Recently, in collaboration with Secret City Trails , I launched an interactive game. You can play it on your phone while discovering Alicante’s coolest spots. There are stops for snacks and drinks, and children of all ages can join in. The game costs €26 and takes about 3 hours. Ideal for spending half a day in the center of Alicante.

Discover Alicante’s historic center. During this interactive city game you’ll walk through the most important streets of this sunny Spanish city and hunt for hidden details. Stroll through atmospheric streets, look for sporting heroes and discover special artworks that point the way. Halfway through there’s time for a tasty break so you’re energized to solve the rest of the riddles.

You can play the game against each other, but also at your own pace with up to 5 people per group. The ideal family outing in Alicante!

Tip 2: Paella with your feet in the sand

Enjoy paella with your feet in the sand: At Playa San Juan, 10 minutes from Alicante center, you can eat at Casa Domingo with your toes in the sand. The restaurant is very popular with families because there are several playgrounds nearby — and the beach right out front. Bring a bucket and spade so the kids can build a sandcastle while you enjoy a crema catalana on this sunny terrace!

Tip : You can also pop into the side bar here for a cold beer and tapas! Also a nice late‑afternoon tip.

Tip 3: Waterpark and zoo

A day of animals and water fun at Terra Natura and Agua Natura. I think it’s a truly beautiful zoo and had an annual pass for years with the kids. There are lots of playgrounds and in summer they’ve made sure there’s plenty of shade. There are many shows — with birds and parrots, for example. More in the mood for a day of swimming? Or a combo ticket for both parks? That’s possible at Agua Natura . This park suits everyone from the very youngest up to teens of about 18. There are many different water play areas for little ones — but also several pretty extreme slides for true daredevils! Do you dare?

Stay overnight near the parks?

The three hotels below are all close to the waterpark and the zoo — and all are suitable for families. Did you know the Luxor even has its own slides? Ideal for true water‑park fans! The Meliá has a wonderful golf course overlooking Benidorm and an enormous pool to completely unwind in the afternoon. And Hotel Helios is by the sea at Levante Beach and within walking distance of Benidorm center.

Tip 4: Museum of Illusions

Museum of Illusions : Brand‑new in Alicante! I haven’t had time to visit yet, but I’m including it anyway because it looks very promising — a fun change of pace for an evening or after a hot beach day.

Tip 5: Rent a car

Rent a car and take a day trip to Altea: Fancy renting a car and seeing more of the Costa Blanca? Then don’t miss the village of Altea with its white houses and great little boutiques.

When you rent a car with OffUgo you can unlock it with your phone. No need to stand in line at the airport. You get a new car, an additional driver is included, and all costs are known in advance. So no unexpected surprises with extra insurance or other charges.
