Padel Tennis Sport in Alicante

Padel might be the most played sport in Spain. Every year more padel courts are added. Young and old play this game in Spain, which is a mix of tennis and squash. Do you want to learn padel, or simply rent a court and have a game during your holiday in Alicante? Then check out this blog with the nicest padel courts in and around Alicante. I also collaborate with a company that organizes padel events. Interested in combining this with, for example, a company outing? Then get in contact with me.

Estrella Damm World Padel Tour in Alicante
Padel tourism has been chosen in Alicante as one of the spearheads on Spain’s tourism agenda. And that’s completely logical, of course!
Right now the “Estrella Damm World Padel Tour” is taking place in Alicante . From April 4 through 10, the best padel players in the world will compete for a place on the podium. Are you in Alicante at the moment and would you like to attend a match? Then check the calendar and match times on this website .
Matches are played in places like Miami, but also later this year in Amsterdam! So don’t think this is just casually knocking a ball around. Padel is a very serious sport that’s played with great intensity and now attracts major sponsorships — and it generates a lot of tourism for Alicante.

What is padel
Padel is a combination of tennis and squash. It’s played on a padel court where the ball may only bounce once. You may also play the ball off the wall, just like in squash. It’s easy to learn if you have a bit of ball sense. And you almost always play doubles — which makes it twice as fun, of course. You can play nice and easy when you’re practicing, because you don’t need as much power as with a tennis racket, where you have to hit the ball forcefully over the net. But once you get the hang of it, you can absolutely make it a very competitive game.

What do you need
- Shoes with grip so you don’t slip
- Sportswear that lets you move comfortably
- A racket.
Renting equipment and reserving courts
There are a lot of padel courts in Alicante nowadays — and more are being added all the time. But equipment rental isn’t possible everywhere. At the Arena in Playa San Juan you can both reserve courts and rent equipment. Just pop into the tennis shop on the little square.
Wear proper padel footwear
To prevent injuries, it’s wise to wear appropriate footwear during your padel adventure in Alicante. But if you only plan to hit a ball now and then, or simply want to try a lesson, a pair of regular trainers will do just fine.
Want to buy special shoes in Alicante? Check Decathlon, or the Arena gym, which has a small shop selling shoes and rackets. The Sprinter store often has shoe options too. And El Corte Inglés in Alicante has a large sports department with many padel items available. Or simply order your footwear and/or equipment in the Netherlands before you come. If you have big feet, the chance of finding the right size here is much smaller. In Spain, the common men’s sizes are between 38 and 43 . Above that it gets pretty tricky to find something that fits!

Drink enough; the best water bottles
We all know you should drink plenty of water. But in Spain you sometimes don’t realize how much moisture you’re losing. A bit of sun on your head and then sprinting around the padel court — wonderful, but don’t forget to bring a filled water bottle. Choose one that’s BPA-free and keeps water cool. You’ll enjoy it throughout your holiday in Spain. Want to buy one here? Try El Corte Inglés in the sports department, La Oca in San Juan, the Carrefour or, in the center, Natura . You’ll find bottles that are a bit more expensive but good quality, so you’ll use them back home too. Never refill a disposable plastic bottle, especially if it has been sitting in the sun for a while. Your cells won’t be muy feliz about that!
