Friends’ weekend in Alicante

More and more groups of friends are finding their way to Alicante to catch up together, shop, be a bit active or drink beers and sangrias. Plenty of affordable flights and accommodations, and Alicante is absolutely not a retirement resort as is still often thought.

Below I already share some tips on the nicest accommodations, bike tour and car rental.

Where to stay in Alicante

Transport from the airport

A bus leaves the airport for the centre every 20 minutes. This is line C6 and costs €2.85 one way. Within 15 minutes you’ll be in the centre. Want to arrive at the airport in style and be decadently taken to your accommodation (for little)? Send me a message and I’ll arrange my taxi driver for you! You’ll be met in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name on it.

Guesthouse Antonio

Going for simple, neat and nicely affordable? Check Guesthouse Antonio . Located right in the centre, close to the nightlife district, supermarket, breakfast places and bakery. Most rooms here have a private bathroom with toilet. And there’s an apartment available with a small patio and its own kitchenette. You can also rent several rooms so you can use the kitchenette together. Do mention you’re coming via Monique — Antonio has been my amigo for years!

Apartamentos Plaza — Centre Ideal location to spend the weekend with 6 to 12 friends. Located in the heart of the centre, around the corner from all the bars and restaurants. There are two apartments for 6 people each. Simple, but fully equipped.

My Flats Luxury Navas This company now has quite a few apartments for rent in Alicante. All aimed at groups of friends. This apartment is a bit more luxurious than the two above and sleeps 7.

What’s fun to do with friends in Alicante

Alicante Highlights Tour

Rent a bike or book a bike tour with Baja Bike/Blue Bike in Alicante centre . The “City Highlights” tour is definitely recommended. If you want to just rent a bike, you can book that via the Baja Bikes website too.

Recently you can also rent scooters from them! Super fun to discover more of Alicante’s surroundings this way!

Rent a car or scooter

Want to see a bit of the surroundings? Then rent a car with Sunny Cars at the airport.

Fun villages to visit are:

* Guadalest * Altea * Polop * Even a day in Valencia is very doable. You’ll be in the centre within two hours. * Or go a bit crazy in Aqualandia. You’ll find discount tickets here .

Walk through the old town up to the castle

At the top you don’t just have a great view, but also cold beers and wines on a nice terrace. On Saturdays and Sundays there are often theatre performances in the morning. And in summer there are even evening concerts with live bands.

Rent mountain bikes

You might not immediately think of this with Alicante. But within a few minutes you’re in the hinterland and you’ll find fantastic mountain‑bike routes for all levels!

Wellness in Alicante

Alicante has beautiful beauty salons where you and your friends can completely unwind. And sorry — not just for ladies! In Spain it’s quite normal for men to go to a salon for a facial too. And as you can see there’s even a **Beer Spa** nowadays where you can dip your legs in hops and truly relax with a beer in hand!

The nicest spas in Alicante: * Mimosa (Face, nails — OPI gel polish here costs only €21, for example) Massage and waxing. (This salon is also in Playa San Juan. You can easily book online !)

* Beerspa — immerse yourself in the world of beer. It’s said not only to be good for glossy hair, but it also makes you veeery relaxed…
