Why a Bed & Breakfast Holiday in Alicante Is Getting More Popular

The popularity of a B&B on the Costa Blanca

Image

A stay in a Bed and Breakfast on the Costa Blanca is so much more than just sleeping. Especially now that TV programs like B&B Vol Liefde show Spanish life more often, more people are dreaming of a small-scale stay in the sunny south. Think of idyllic places inland like Jijona (Xixona) , El Campello or Javea , where you wake up overlooking mountains and almond fields.

What makes a B&B in Alicante so appealing?

Personal and warm contact

In a B&B you’re often welcomed by the owners themselves. No cold hotel desk, but a genuine smile and often a welcome drink. Many guests describe it as “coming home in Spain.”

Authentic locations

Whether you choose a bed & breakfast in Jávea by the sea or a **finca** in the hills of Jijona , you sleep in unique places. No standard rooms, but ones created and decorated with lots of love and attention.

Local experiences

B&B owners know where you can best eat, hike or swim without tourist crowds. I work with many B&Bs (only with **real** and genuinely lovely B&B owners, of course).

I often receive questions from them — asked by their guests. That way I’m well informed about what’s on their minds.

What are the drawbacks of a B&B holiday?

Less privacy

A B&B is small-scale. That means you may bump into other guests at breakfast or the owner may stop by for a chat. Do you like that? Perfect. Prefer more distance? Then a hotel is more anonymous.

No hotel services

Think: no room service, no wellness or buffet restaurant. But… in return you get peace, charm and a homely feel.

Variation in quality

One B&B is professionally run, another is still in start-up. So always check reviews, Google Maps and photos. That way you won’t be surprised.

The B&Bs I work with are all vetted by me, of course. But even then, tastes differ. I always call it “hard bed, soft bed.” What is the ultimate holiday experience for one person may not suit another. It depends on what you’re looking for.

Inspiration: stay among almond blossoms and mountain peaks

An example of such a restful place can be found inland from Alicante , towards Jijona . More and more charming B&Bs are popping up here — perfect for couples, hikers and nature lovers. You wake up to birdsong and look out over a landscape straight out of a movie.

Nice B&Bs in Costa Blanca South — Alicante:

Starting your own B&B in Spain?

For many people it’s a dream: running a B&B under the Spanish sun in Alicante, Lliber, Jijona, Javea or nearby. A house in the mountains, welcoming guests, picking fresh oranges from your own garden… Especially when you see TV programs like **B&B Vol Liefde**, where Dutch people have already taken the leap, it feels so close.

But reality is often more complex than it seems.

Where do you start? What about permits, laws, taxes and marketing? And above all: where do you find that one magical dream spot ?

I speak almost weekly with Dutch people seriously considering starting a Bed & Breakfast in Alicante . Some are looking for a house with B&B potential. Others want to experience Spanish life first as a guest. I also talk to many B&B owners — and to people who stopped and put their B&B up for sale again.
