Photography Trip to Alicante

Some time ago, on a rainy day in the Netherlands, a brilliant idea came to me. I was a bit frustrated that I can never attend the photography meetups in the Netherlands. And just popping over for an afternoon of shooting in Utrecht would be a bit too costly. But then I realized—I could simply turn it around! And invite the female photographers from that group to come photograph with me in Alicante. The group called “Fotomeisjes” (“Photo Girls”) quickly turned into “Fotoreisjes” (“Photo Trips”) for me. And a few months later, Talitha, Sandra, Didi, and Annick were standing at Alicante airport.
Our program looked like this:
Thursday was arrival and getting‑to‑know‑you day. In the evening we had a nice dinner in the center. The temperature was still perfect for sitting outside, so we made the most of it!
Friday started with a Spanish breakfast. We needed the energy, because a walk to the castle was on the agenda. Our first stop was the market in Alicante, where everyone’s eyes widened at all the local products and their memory cards filled up fast with shots of shopping Spaniards and typical delicacies. Along the way we stopped everywhere in the old town to take gorgeous photos of the views. My goal was for everyone’s photographic interests to be covered—whether you like shooting buildings or prefer portraits.

After that, we took the tram to Playa San Juan, where we ate paella with our feet in the sand. Toward the end of the afternoon we had a workshop from the Spanish photographer David Santacruz. The focus was on flash photography in situations where there’s a lot of motion, such as blowing hair, people running, etc. Super interesting! Armed with this knowledge, we headed back toward Alicante in the evening.
On Saturday, after a delicious Spanish breakfast at Baker & Co in the old town, we met our models: Gloria and Miguelon. Together with them we turned the city upside down. We always had an audience and, of course, were literally in the picture with five photographers and two top models!

Click, Eat, Repeat! After this photo session our memory cards were quite full. Time to debrief. We enjoyed good food and exchanged knowledge and experiences. Who photographs what in daily life, and how do you approach it all? These are things many self‑employed photographers seem to run into, so it was great to brainstorm together! In just a few days we built a lovely friendship and it clicked as if we go out together every year! The next outing is already planned! And because of this success, another “FotoReisje” is coming. I’ll publish the dates soon—so keep an eye on my site! You can find the results of this sparkling weekend on my page and also on the website and social media of Talitha Cornelisse.
