House-Hunting in Spain

Travel isn’t allowed right now. For some people that also means the dream of possibly buying a second home in Alicante or elsewhere in Spain is postponed. But how nice is it to daydream on your sofa about Spanish houses? To fantasize about your dream home and take a peek inside the beautiful properties along Spain’s costas? I’ve made a top 5 of the best sites to start your Spanish adventure — or just to daydream.
In Spanish, **Se vende** means “For Sale.” And **Se Alquila** or **En alquiler** means “For Rent.” You always see these on the agent boards attached to a property. They’re also, of course, listed on every site. In addition, a property is very often for sale with **multiple** agents in Spain — first come, first served…
Another good tip: you need to look past the photos on Spanish property websites. By that I mean not much attention is paid yet to perfecting the listing photos. It can easily happen that you see someone in the background of a photo, or that the **primary** photo is a shot of the garage. So, if you have the chance and you’re serious about finding a home, make an appointment. In real life it often looks ten times better.

1) Fotocasa
Then click to **your desired area** and soon you can select by town and price. Phone numbers of the owner or agent are listed on this website. Fotocasa also has its own app so you get a notification, for example, when a new villa is offered for sale in your region or a price drops.

2) Idealista.com
Did you know the Costa Blanca has the most hours of sunshine per year? Useful to factor in. And even in summer the climate is still pleasant, while further south temperatures really push past 40°C. Looking for a lovely detached home around Alicante? First type “Alicante,” then refine by zones. For example, check “Cabo de las Huertas” or “Coveta Fumà.” Both zones have definitely kept their Spanish character, even though you won’t be looked at strangely as a foreigner. By that I mean you won’t find “Friet van Piet” here like you do around Albir, Benidorm, and Altea — it just depends on your preference.

3) Ya Encontré

4) En Alquiler
