5 Best Hotels for a City Trip to Alicante

The nicest hotels for your city trip to Alicante. The great thing about Alicante is that almost everything is within walking distance. All hotels are in the center. That means you can walk straight to the sea with your towel over your shoulder. On the way back you’ll grab a tapa and in your flip‑flops you’ll stroll back to one of these lovely hotels.

To know what I’m writing about, we of course tried **all** the hotels below ourselves! Read my honest opinions and recommendations on the five best hotels for a weekend getaway in Alicante:

1. Hospes Amérigo Alicante

This one is at the top for a reason. The finest hotel in Alicante. Beautiful, spacious rooms in a chic design hotel that dates from the 19th century and used to be a Dominican convent. This beautiful hotel overlooks Alicante Cathedral and is less than a 5‑minute walk to the beach. And there are lots of good restaurants nearby. Kids are allowed here, but it’s not a true family hotel. On the top floor there’s a spa and pool, with a rooftop terrace with loungers and a bar. From here you have a nice view of the **barrio**, Alicante’s old quarter. Personally I think this is one of the best hotels in Spain. Lovely bedding, fantastic service — and we haven’t even talked about the food yet.

Oh and uhh… The springs have been tested by the family‑affairs management team!

3. Casa Alberola by Hilton

Yes, you read that right! Alicante has its own Hilton Hotel . Luxe, central, in a beautiful building. Stylish interior and the **very** best are the rooms in the dome. You pay a bit extra, but if you’re booking this hotel anyway, I’d definitely choose it. You’ll have a view over the whole city and the bed stands in a semi‑circular room with gorgeous windows. The beach and the shopping district are a 2‑minute walk. There are several cozy terraces right outside the door.

The hotel sits at the start of the promenade where you can stroll endlessly and drink **café con leche** at one of the many terraces. Again, not really a family hotel with kids’ activities, but a stunning location if you’re visiting Alicante as a couple.

4. Gran Sol, by Meliá

This hotel has undergone a major renovation. It’s right in the center of Alicante, very close to the Explanada promenade. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. Spacious room, lovely bed, amazing view and a good restaurant — for breakfast, lunch **and** dinner. With a view you can only dream of. Definitely recommended when staying in Alicante.

Ask for a room on one of the higher floors when you book. And set your alarm early — you’ll catch the most beautiful sunrise right in front of you! When we stayed, guests still weren’t allowed to walk around the breakfast buffet. So they gave you a card to order any breakfast you wanted from the waiter — a perfect alternative. The bathroom was fairly standard, like the rest of the furniture. But in this hotel you’ll want to enjoy the beautiful view. Instagram‑proof photos guaranteed from the balcony that every room has.

Note: the hotel doesn’t have a pool, even though you’ll see it among the photos on Booking. Keep that in mind if you’re booking with kids.

But it **does** have the best view of any hotel in Alicante! See below…

Meliá recently renovated its rooms. It doesn’t matter which side you book — sea side or harbor side. There’s plenty to see either way. In your flip‑flops you can walk straight to the rooftop pool and stretch out on one of the loungers. Or stroll to the promenade for a good **tinto de verano** (Spanish summer wine). Central location, the quality you expect from a Meliá (a big Spanish chain), good service and breakfast. In short: highly recommended for a weekend in Alicante! The hotel also has a (small) gym — don’t forget your trainers! There’s a kids’ club for the little ones.

6. Hotel Jova El Campello

Lastly I want to recommend a beautiful hotel outside Alicante’s center. This is a three‑star hotel but certainly doesn’t fall short of the ones above. By tram you’ll be in the center within 20 minutes. And the village of El Campello is super nice and close to Alicante. That’s why it’s on this list too: Hotel Jova ! Totally renovated and a real recommendation.

Trendy, warm decor and this look & feel extends to everything. Great staff and a warm welcome. “Make yourself at home,” said the guy at check‑in — a great start! The hotel is on the boulevard in El Campello , right on the beach. After a few hours of sunbathing, enjoy a delicious cappuccino on the cozy terrace and in the evening eat at one of the nice nearby restaurants. Suitable for families, though note there’s no pool or kids’ club.
